HKWP was selected as the winner of the Burlington City Arts 'Main Street Median Competition'. 4 Teams composed of landscape architects, architects, artists, traffic engineers and lighting designers proposed designs for the main street gateway to Burlington and the University of Vermont. A committee of Burlington and UVM officials selected the design by HKWP which focused on the shared commitment to the environment and sustainability that the two entities share. The design features a continuous ribbon of light in the median powered by a sculptural field of vertical axis wind turbines. Other features included horizontal entry walls, landforms and new UVM signage.
